Positive: I’d first like to commend my host for being so helpful and responsive on WhatsApp. Thank you! A private apartment, which at the time I rented the place, was very affordable. Upon arrival, we were greeted by one of the hosts and given a quick tour of the place. You first will walk through a rundown hallway and stairwell outside and then walk into a clean, lavish apartment. The juxtaposition of the initial entry into the place from the stairwell to the apartment is a nice experience! The AC is very powerful and cools the place very quickly, which we were very thankful for! The location is truly in the heart of the Old Quarter. Walk a few meters in any direction to be on a new street/block, specializing in different things (clothes, fresh produce, dried goods, hardware, etc). The apartment comes equipped with a small kitchen and cookware. Walk just outside to buy all the fresh ingredients you could ever want and make a home cooked meal with authentic, Vietnamese ingredients. The bed is pretty comfortable, which is something I haven’t had much luck with in many parts of Asia (as a budget traveler). The owner can book you a private taxi to your bus station if you need, and it is about 20% cheaper than a Grab taxi!

Negative: A few minor complaints that I thought I’d share with future renters, but minor enough that I still rate the place a 10/10. A theme I’ve had traveling several countries in Asia has been poor sound proofing. My guess is that it’s maybe a common tourist complaint, but something locals are used to and not bothered by. The market workers start prep around 3am and it sounds like they’re chopping coconuts. It was just two of us renting, so we didn’t have access to the upstairs. Maybe don’t sleep in the main bed and request the bed upstairs instead, in case you think sound will be an issue for you. Secondly, when the air is stagnant in the apartment, air from the stairwell outside the apartment can cause an odor. Just turn the AC and/or fan on and air the place out and it isn’t a problem! Don’t let this deter you from staying in this perfectly located apartment, hosted by kind, welcoming hosts!
